CHP escorting traffic through I-5, Grapevine due to snow

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- California Highway Patrol officers are escorting traffic through Interstate 5 along the Grapevine Tuesday evening due to reports of snow, Caltrans said. Possible funnel cloud visible as thunderstorm rolls through Bakersfield Caltrans said snow is starting to stick in the roadway. Snow is reported falling between Highway 138 and the Lebec area. The snow and turned into a light rain, CHP reported at around 6:19 p.m.Interstate 5 remained open and motorists are urged to drive with caution.Check back for updates.

Concord: One dead, one injured after shooting at strip mall

CONICORD — A person died and another person was injured after a shooting outside a strip mall Tuesday under investigation as a homicide, authorities said.In a limited statement posted to social media, police said dispatchers received a call around 9:48 a.m. about gunshots heard near Solano Way and Broadmoor Avenue.When officers arrived, they found two people near the mall suffering from gunshot wounds. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity was not immediately available Tuesday, pending next-of-kin notification from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division.The other was taken to a hospital for treatment; police did not release that person’s injuries or condition.In a social-media post at 11:18 a.m., police asked residents and others to avoid the area. Earthquake with 4.6 magnitude hits near Ferndale, Fortuna

(KTXL) — A 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck near Ferndale on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The USGS reported the quake hit at 4:18 p.m., with a depth of about 10 miles. The quake was about 4 miles west-southwest of Ferndale and 10 miles east-northeast from Fortuna.

Denver paramedic struck by drunk driver, saved by coworkers

How much snowfall did Denver get this winter?

DENVER (KDVR) -- The 2022-23 snow season started off with impressive above-average snowfall, but accumulation has decreased since February. The bar graph below shows the month-to-month snowfall for Denver this winter season (blue) compared to the monthly average snowfall (white). Denver had three months in a row with well above average snowfall totals to kick off the season along with December and January picking up 13 inches each. By February, snowfall totals greatly decreased for Denver with only 4.7 inches of snow. It was the only month this winter season so far that ended with below-average totals. Comparing this winter to last in the bar graph below, last winter season started off slow with only a trace of snowfall in November and 4.8 inches in December. Snowfall accumulation picked up in 2022 in January and February with over a foot measured in both months. This March has been a "dud" in terms of snow for Denver with only 1.5 inches so far while last March had over 13 inches ...

Caught on camera: Coast Guard rescues migrants from rough seas off Key West

There’s new video of the U.S. Coast Guard rescuing migrants off Key West.This is about six miles south of the southernmost point.Crews pulled 18 people from the rough seas and another 10 from that vessel Monday after getting tipped off by a boater.One person remains missing, and officials said they will continue to search.Two of the people saved were brought to shore and sent to the hospital.The nationality of the group has not yet been released.
