Perry Ayers, founder of Colorado Black Arts Festival, dies of cancer in Wheat Ridge

Perry Ayers, founder and artistic director of the Colorado Black Arts Festival, died Thursday from cancer in a Wheat Ridge hospice. He was 71.Colorado Black Arts Festival founder Perry Ayers. The weekend festival, held last year in City Park, migrated over the years, from City Park to Sonny Lawson Park to Caldwell Plaza in Five Points to the lawn at East High School and back to City Park. At times, the popular festival has drawn more than 100,000 people through the course of a weekend. A Denver police officer repeatedly used a Taser on an unarmed man as he lay on the ground in a downtown hotel lobby, a federal excessive force lawsuit alleges.Nicholas Munden was hospitalized after the May 9, 2022, incident at the Denver Art Hotel and suffered electrical burns to his stomach, legs and shoulder, as well as an injury to his shoulder, according to the federal lawsuit he filed last week against the officer and the city of Denver.The officer, Michael Pineda, used excessive force against Munden, who had a reservation at the hotel but was asked to leave, the lawsuit states.RELATED: 2 Denver police officers arrested. Male Driver Pronounced Dead after 2-Vehicle Collision near Mission Center RoadSAN DIEGO, CA (March 29, 2023) – Thursday afternoon, one man was killed in a two-car crash on Murray Ridge Road.Authorities responded to the scene just before 12:30 p.m., near Mission Center Road in the neighborhood of Serra Mesa.Per reports, the 53-year-old male driver of a northbound Chevrolet pickup-truck lost control and spun out in the southbound lanes. 73-Year-Old Woman Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash on Highway 17 near El Rancho DriveSANTA CRUZ, CA (March 29, 2023) – Early Tuesday morning, one person died following a solo-vehicle crash on Highway 17.The incident happened on March 21st, at around 5:45 a.m., on the northbound lanes of Highway 17 near the El Rancho Drive off-ramp.Investigation showed that a 73-year-old woman, driving a 2003 Acura, was traveling north when she lost control of the vehicle at the south of El Rancho Drive exit. The Acura struck a metal pole which caused it to overturn. The woman suffered serious injuries as a result.Emergency crews at the scene performed life-saving measures but the woman did not survive due to the extent of her injuries.Moreover, the crash blocked the northbound lanes to the off-ramp El Rancho and snarled traffic as a result.At this time, the identity of the woman was not yet known. Skelton seems to want the governor to officially proclaim it’s over. But why do that and what will that accomplish?We had a deepening-water crisis even before the drought. If the governor declares what Skelton wants that could signal a return to the past practice of waste. Our crisis is of a magnitude that, in my opinion, we seem to need a four- to five-year water reserve to make it through the next drought, which could return next year.We are in no position to declare anything.
