Latest Bears stadium legislation would add $3 to ticket prices at Arlington Heights site to help pay off Soldier Field debt Tickets to games and other events at the Chicago Bears’ proposed Arlington Heights development would come with a $3-per-person tax under legislation filed in the Illinois House on Thursday that seeks to jump-start stalled talks over state assistance for the team’s anticipated decampment to the northwest suburbs.Proceeds from the $3 admission tax would go to the city of Chicago to help pay off debt the Park District incurred to fund renovations of Soldier Field two decades ago.Initial reaction to the proposal was tepid from the suburbs, city legislators and the Bears. But the bill’s chief sponsor said the move was an effort to keep alive conversations about the future of a Bears stadium with the scheduled end of the spring legislative session less than a month away.State Rep. Marty Moylan, a Des Plaines Democrat who previously was the northwest suburb’s mayor, said one of the goals of the bill was to gain support from Chicago lawmakers who are reluctant to bac...

Lincoln-Sudbury, Hingham advance to meet in Coaches Cup final BRIDGEWATER — Ever since a few longtime officials came up with the idea to create the showcase about 13 years ago, the Coaches Cup has consistently delivered some of the best lacrosse action in the Commonwealth, if not New England. On Thursday, the tournament resumed, and it now appears a few familiar schools will vie for the championship this upcoming weekend following its events.Senior captain Ryan Berkel finished with a hat trick to go with three assists, while classmate Van Tanguay added a trio of goals, as Lincoln-Sudbury clinched its second straight trip to the Coaches Cup title game with a convincing 12-6 victory over Wellesley at Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School.Wellesley (4-1) entered the semifinals with a perfect record, looking to make a statement against a perennial heavyweight. Deep O’Bryant boys volleyball team sweeps by Lincoln-Sudbury ROXBURY — If there are two things that are most consistent with the O’Bryant boys volleyball team early on this season, it’s the Tigers’ strong play when closing out a set; and that senior setter Son Nguyen will get the right characters going for the team’s best chance at winning. Both showed in full form Thursday afternoon, as Nguyen dished out 28 assists to help No. 5 O’Bryant (7-1) overcome a resilient No. 20 Lincoln-Sudbury team for a 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-17) nonleague win. Not one player accrued double-digit kills, as Nguyen spread the wealth beyond typical premier hitter Jonathan Narsjo, who couldn’t get going until the final set against the Warriors’ blockers. That distribution coupled nicely with the group’s 11 aces, which it used for the final point in two separate sets to hold off some vicious Lincoln-Sudbury rallies.“That, I really love about our boys. Closing plays, we are winning,” said O’Bryant head coach Paul Pitts-Dilley. “When we are playing our game, we’re playing g...
