Photos: Pumpkin sets world record (2,749 pounds!) at Half Moon Bay weigh-off Grower Travis Gienger not only dunked on the competition Monday in Half Moon Bay with his pumpkin nicknamed “Michael Jordan,” he also set a world record and earned a big bonus.At the Safeway 50th annual World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off, all eyes were on the Gienger gourd from the start because the Minnesota grower had won last year’s contest with a 2,560-pounder that set a Half Moon Bay competition record.His entry tipped, er, nearly toppled the scales at 2,749 pounds, which is 46 pounds heavier than the previous world champ, a 2,703-pound pumpkin grown in Italy.On top of the 9 cents per pounds that Safeway pays for the winning entry, Gienger received a $30,000 bonus for besting the world record.Gienger’s winner will be on display at this weekend’s Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, and attendees can have their photo taken with the gargantuan gourd. Police shooting at Chinese Consulate in SF leaves one dead SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A driver who crashed a car into the Chinese Consulate building in San Francisco Monday afternoon has been shot and killed, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. The San Francisco Police Department confirmed that an officer was involved in the shooting.Police responded to the scene at Geary Boulevard and Laguna Street at 3:09 p.m. after hearing that a car crashed into a building. The responding officer shot the suspect, who died at the hospital. Police did not provide additional information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Blazing fire forces residents to evacuate NEMD apartment complex Residents of a Northeast Miami-dade apartment complex were forced to evacuate after a fire broke out.It happened near Northeast Miami Gardens Drive and 14th Avenue.Authorities said there was an issue with one of the electrical panels, sending smoke throughout the building and forcing residents out.“It was smoke in the elevator smoke in the building and just we had to evacuate it we didn’t have any choice,” said Oren Pinhas, one resident forced to evacuate.
