SUV driver hits rental van, crashes into Subway in Hialeah

A Hialeah sandwich shop was bashed by a driver who slammed right through its front window..An SUV plowed into the Subway location in the area of West 49th Street and 12th Avenue, at around 5:20 p.m., Saturday.“All I hear was a bam,” said witness Thomas Pinder.The aftermath of the crash was caught on cellphone video.“The glass came smashing into the building, along with some debris and smoke,” said Pinder.Pinder, who came to South Florida from the Bahaman on a business trip, said he was having a sandwich inside the Subway with his wife when the SUV came barreling in — but not before it hit his rental van.“[The driver] lost control, somehow came across, hit the side of my car, the front side here, and smashed into the building,” he said.By nightfall, crews had boarded up the shop.“Surprising, but thank God, [the driver] is alive and seems to be doing well,” said Pinder.The cause of the crash remains under investigation.Memorial Healthcare’s One City at a Time program kicks off in Hallandale Beach

Authorities have identified the 23-year-old man who was fatally shot in Mansfield on Saturday.Officers responding to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the area of 42 Church St. found Samuel P. Waters, 23, of Mansfield, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Bristol District Attorney’s Office. The first white shark of the season was spotted off Cape Cod on Saturday.Video shared with 7NEWS by Todd Ferrer-Bedard, of New Britain, Connecticut, showed the estimated 12-foot shark feeding on a seal off the coast of Provincetown. Ferrer-Bedard was among the visitors who spotted the shark while taking part in a Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch around 10 a.m.Bryan Legare, manager of the Shark Ecology Program at the Center for Coastal Studies confirmed this is the first shark sighting of the season. Plainville firefighters battled a multi-alarm blaze that tore through a YMCA pool clubhouse on Saturday.Crews responding to a reported structure fire on Berry Street around 5 p.m. found heavy flames coming from the building. A man has been arrested on after fatally stabbing a woman in a park in Brampton.Peel police were called to Sparrow Park in the area of Hummingbird Court and Cherrytree Drive on Friday night, just west of Hurontario Street and Highway 407, around 6 p.m. Friday evening for reports someone was being assaulted.When they arrived they discovered a woman suffering from stab wounds along a footpath in the park. Life-saving measures were started but the woman was later pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has was identified as 43-year-old Davinder Kaur from Brampton.44-year-old Nav Nishan Singh from Brampton was located and arrested a short distance from the scene. Singh was charged with first-degree murder and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton Saturday morning. VANCOUVER — Most of the shoes on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery that were a part of a memorial dedicated to children who never returned from residential schools disappeared hours before a scheduled ceremony to remove them.A spokesperson for the City of Vancouver said Friday the city had an agreement with the artist and volunteers guarding the memorial to have a ceremony to remove the shoes before the weekend.However, when city staff arrived Friday morning to begin work, Michelle Bryant-Gravelle said they found the shoes had mostly disappeared, with staff members saying the volunteers had admitted to removing them.Volunteers on-site at the memorial said on Saturday they did not know where the shoes went, declining further comment.Bryant-Gravelle said the shoes’ removal puts the city in a “difficult” and “highly sensitive” situation that it “hasn’t been in before,” because the original plans for removal were formed with guidance ...Latest news
