Men’s hockey: Penn State earns weekend split with Gophers STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Long-time Minnesota coach Don Lucia used to say that the first team to score three goals in any given game is likely to win. And on Saturday, the Nittany Lions got there first.Penn State scored twice in less than a minute early, and cashed in on a pair of Gophers turnovers late, holding off any Minnesota opportunities to rally in a 6-3 win.Ryan Kirwan was the hottest of the hot hands for the Lions (9-5-3, 2-3-3 Big Ten), with a goal and two assists as Penn State beat Minnesota at home for the first time in nearly four years. Lions goalie Noah Grannan got his third win of the season with 23 saves.Known as one of the more intimidating places to visit in college hockey, the Penn State coach said his team fed off the crowd’s energy to get an important win.“You lose a tough game last night and the crowd was unbelievable. Data reveals St. Louis Loop Trolley among most underused US streetcars ST. LOUIS - New data reveals that the St. Louis Loop Trolley is one of the most underused streetcar systems among major U.S. cities. Transit policy analyst Brad Thomas recently crunched data on transportation services from the Federal Transit Administration, further analyzed by the Cato Institute. A list that Thomas created on Twitter from FTA data ranked St. Louis last among cities in September 2023 in a metric classified as "riders per vehicle hour."This metric is calculated by two pieces of FTA data: The number of unlinked passenger trips (UPT) divided by the number of vehicle revenue hours (VRH) over any given period of time. Three men charged in St. Charles County trafficking case plead not guilty Last September, St. Louis had a sparse "riders per vehicle hour" ranking of 2.1. For perspective, the next closest rate among qualified U.S. cities with rail services was Galveston, Texas with a rank of 9.2 riders per vehicle hour in the year's ninth month. For the year, the St. Lo...

Keeler: Meet Josh Snyder, the 5-11 Columbine Goliath who dethroned Dave Logan’s Cherry Creek football dynasty FORT COLLINS — Josh Snyder is an open book. He just wishes some more college programs would pick the darn thing up.“I mean, I’m trying to put myself out there,” Columbine’s senior tailback told me with a chuckle, his laugh a frosty cloud of breath after carrying the Rebels to a Class 5A state football title. His X bio lists every meaningful digit but the kid’s cellphone and Social Security numbers, naked to Elon Musk and the world. Says right here he boasts a 4.5 GPA, 405-pound squat, 260-pound bench, 4.5 40-yard dash, 7.11-second 60-meter official track time.Dude might want to add this number: 226 page-turning, all-purpose yards at Canvas Stadium that stonewalled Dave Logan and Cherry Creek from nailing a historic five-peat.“I wanted this so bad,” said Snyder, still grinning after dropping 128 rushing yards, a 98-yard kick return and three touchdowns on the bigger, badder Bruins. “And that’s what motivated me — that t...

Kiszla: Broncos are back in playoff contention because Russell Wilson, Mr. Unlimited, has embraced his limitations On the occasion of his 35th birthday, let us celebrate Russell Wilson for embracing one of the hardest things for the male ego to do. The quarterback formerly known as Mr. Unlimited has accepted he isn’t as good as he once was.“I feel great. I feel young. I feel fast. I feel confident,” Wilson said Wednesday, explaining why he’s not afraid of any edge rusher or Father Time catching him from behind. At 35, Wilson almost certainly will never again be a candidate for MVP of the NFL. But neither should we expect him to suffer a midlife crisis, because Wilson has adopted a brave refusal to be entrapped by his ego. After a horrendous 1-5 start, the Broncos have played themselves back into playoff contention, while Wilson has inserted himself into the conversation about Comeback Player of the Year, in no small measure because Russ has decided he would rather win than cook. While it’s hard to argue Wilson is worth the five-year, $245 million contract extension that doesn’t kick in until next s...
