Parent sues Denver school board member Auon’tai Anderson in test of Colorado’s new social media law

Published Wed, 05 Mar 2025 18:31:41 GMT

A parent is suing Denver Public Schools and school board Vice President Auon’tai Anderson, alleging that he violated her First Amendment right to free speech by blocking her from viewing and posting on his Facebook page. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Denver on Tuesday, comes amid legal uncertainty in the United States over whether elected officials can block constituents from their social media pages.Colorado legislators passed a law earlier this year allowing elected officials to ban anyone from their private social media accounts. The state law was a first-of-its-kind statute, but the U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear two similar cases and decide the matter in its coming session. The lawsuit by Denver parent Eve Chen was filed, in part, to directly challenge Colorado’s new law — and is the first to do so, said Andrew McNulty, an attorney representing Chen.Related ArticlesEducation | Denver Public Schools pledged to pay tutoring vendors based on their ...

This sheet-pan vegetarian dinner can’t get much simpler

By Melissa Clark, The New York TimesThere’s a time-honored technique for roasting bell peppers. This recipe isn’t it.The tried-and-true method produces lissome, velvety peppers with a concentrated, sweet flavor. But it’s also a pain.Charring the whole peppers over an open flame, then steaming, cooling, peeling, seeding and deveining them, is time-consuming and messy, and it leaves sooty flecks of pepper skin clinging to everything they touch and even some things they don’t. I’m happy to occasionally trot out the whole process when I’m making something special, but it’s a lot of hoops to clear on any given Tuesday. Here, then, is my Tuesday night pepper hack, with a streamlined yet effective technique that gives great results any day of the week. Any week peppers are in season, that is.Not peeling the peppers saves you the most time here. I’ve learned that if you slice them thin and roast them long enough, they collapse into tender strands that caramelize at the edges — and tast...
