Max Morath, Colorado native and renown ragtime pianist, dies at 96

Max Morath, a Colorado Springs native who as a pianist and musical director championed ragtime music, and who around 1960 wrote, performed and co-produced 28 programs for public television in Denver entitled “The Ragtime Era,” died June 19 in Duluth, Minn. Cherry Creek seafood restaurateur Sean Huggard is boiling up something new.The owner of Blue Island Oyster Bar & Seafood is opening a new concept, Oliver’s Italian, at 4950 S. Yosemite St. in the Belleview Square shopping center.“American Italian food was some of the first stuff I ever learned how to cook as a line cook in high school,” Huggard said. “I’ve always been super fond of it.”Customers can expect a simple “approachable” Italian menu, with a mix of items such as Americanized chicken parmesan, pinsa (a Roman-style pizza) and a raw bar.“We’re not sticking ourselves to one type of thing. It’s the idea of Italy as a whole, and also bringing that Americanized Italian food,” Huggard said.Huggard opened the first Blue Island in Cherry Creek in 2015 and expanded the brand to Lone Tree early last year. A California Highway Patrol officer was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a crash on the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore.The crash happened around 1:55 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway, just south of Nichols Road.The officer, who was riding a CHP motorcycle, crashed at some point and suffered undisclosed injuries, officials said.The officer's condition is unclear, but authorities confirmed the injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital.The cause of the crash remains under investigation.Check back for details on this developing story.Couple found dead inside San Juan Capistrano home

An investigation is underway after the bodies of a man and woman were found inside a home in San Juan Capistrano Tuesday morning.The bodies were found around 8 a.m. by civil deputies who were serving an eviction notice at the home, which is located on the 30000 block of Paseo Santiago. According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, which is contracted to provide law enforcement services in the city, homicide detectives are investigating the deaths.Additional details about the two people found, including their ages and relationship with one another, were not immediately available.The cause of death was not released, but Sgt. 23-Year-Old Pronounced Dead after Motorcycle Collision near Hellebore StreetMENIFEE, CA (June 27, 2023) – Thursday evening, Mason Young was fatally struck in a motorcycle accident on Whitewood Road.Police responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m., near Hellebore Street on May 18th.Per reports, the 17-year-old female driver of a sedan struck a motorcyclist as they attempted to turn left onto northbound Whitewood Road. OAKLAND — Police on Tuesday released images of the driver and vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and run collision June 16 in East Oakland that left a 58-year-old woman dead.Police identified the woman Tuesday as Santu Maya, of Oakland.The fatal collision happened about 7:05 p.m. June 16 at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Vicksburg Avenue.Maya, who lived in the area, was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a black Mercedes that was going westbound on Foothill and failed to stop for a red light, police said. Police said they believe the Mercedes was involved in a street race and the driver was speeding when the car hit her.
