Pelicans rule out Nance for play-in game vs. Thunder NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Pelicans reserve forward Larry Nance Jr. has been scratched from the lineup for the Western Conference play-in game Wednesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.Nance hurt his ankle during New Orleans’ regular-season finale, a loss Sunday at Minnesota that relegated the Pelicans to the conference’s ninth seed. The Nos. 9 and 10 seeds must go 2-0 in play-in games to advance to the first round of the NBA playoffs as an eighth seed.Nance has started just once this season but has been among the Pelicans’ most prominent frontcourt reserves during the 65 games in which he’s played, averaging 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in 21.2 minutes per game. His absence raises the likelihood that New Orleans will give more playing time to fourth-year pro Jaxson Hayes and Spanish veteran Willy Hernangomez.Hayes has appeared in 47 games, averaging five points and 2.8 rebounds in 13 minutes per game. Hernangomez has played in 28 games, posting averages of 6.9...

Residents of Larkspur start petition to stop construction of proposed truck stop LARKSPUR, Colo. (KDVR) -- Nearly 1,100 residents in the area of Larkspur have signed a petition to "Stop the Truck Stop" currently proposed to be built off Upper Lake Gulch Road off Interstate 25. "I think people of Larkspur want progress but this isn’t progression, this is regression and it will destroy what makes Larkspur, Larkspur," Shawn Carroll, who moved there 13 months ago, said.Carroll said along with others he was originally under the impression that the area being developed would be a little travel oasis, he said that's how it was originally presented. He said they weren't expecting a 60-spot truck stop. "They are going to take away what makes this area attractive to so many," Carroll said. Sam Doyle, who has lived in Larkspur since 1981, said the big worry is the town's water, waste, and environmental impacts. And, of course, he said the traffic it would bring, especially with large semis, is of major concern.   Denver no longer nation’s to...

Bulgaria: No light at the end of the tunnel Dimitar Bechev is a lecturer at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies, a visiting scholar at Carnegie Europe and the author of “Rival Power: Russia in Southeast Europe.”A couple weeks ago, Bulgarians voted in yet another election — their fifth since April 2021.However, as the dust settles and political parties weigh what their next moves may be, one thing is certain: Putting together a governing coalition will be a daunting task. While former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov’s Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party (GERB) came first — as it did last October — the second largest party, We Continue the Change (PP), has ruled out any cooperation with GERB, which it casts as the personification of state capture and corruption bedeviling the European Union member country.Borissov will thus have to look elsewhere for support, but it is far from certain whether a coalition will materialize, and Bulgaria may well be in for yet another election as early as July. And this never...

Poland’s Morawiecki plays Europe’s anti-Macron in Washington There’s an Emmanuel Macron-shaped shadow hovering over this week’s U.S. visit by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. In contrast to the French president — who in an interview with POLITICO tried to put some distance between the U.S. and Europe in any future confrontation with China over Taiwan and called for strengthening the Continent’s “strategic autonomy” — the Polish leader is underlining the critical importance of the alliance between America and Europe, not least because his country is one of Kyiv’s strongest allies in the war with Russia.“Instead of building strategic autonomy from the United States, I propose a strategic partnership with the United States,” he said before flying to Washington. In the U.S. capital, Morawiecki continued with his under-the-table kicks at the French president. “I see no alternative, and we are absolutely on the same wavelength here, to building an even closer alliance with the Americans. ...

She furthermore accused Russia of using hunger as a “weapon of war” by hindering exports of Ukrainian grain.McCain, formerly the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. food agencies, took the helm of the WFP on April 5 and begins her five-year term at a time of increasing world hunger. The number of people facing food insecurity around the world rose to a record 345 million at the end of last year, up from 282 million in 2021, according to the WFP’s figures, as Russia’s war in Ukraine deepened a food crisis driven by climate change, COVID-19 and other conflicts. This year ...
