Rain and snow showers expected Wednesday, more snow possible Thursday night

Published Sun, 29 Dec 2024 11:59:32 GMT

Rain and snow showers expected Wednesday, more snow possible Thursday night  St. Louis weather from Meteorologist Angela Hutti:ST. LOUIS - A slow-moving storm will bring a mix of rain and snow to the St. Louis region on Wednesday. This starts as rain but will mix with some snow as temperatures drop a few degrees. Because the ground is still warm and air temperatures will be above freezing, most of what falls will melt on contact. Some short bursts of snow may be intense enough to allow for some slushy buildups on lesser-traveled roads, especially west and southwest of metro St. Louis. We mostly expect only minor slushy accumulations on grassy surfaces, car tops, trees, etc., and even there it will melt pretty quickly.  St. Louis radar: See a map of current weather here Mixed precipitation does look like it will transition to all snow into Wednesday evening before tapering to flurries late at night. Temperatures will remain a few degrees above freezing, which should limit widespread road impacts. However, the loss of sunshine will allow for a bit more accu...

Published Sun, 29 Dec 2024 11:59:32 GMT

Avs Mailbag: What will the front office’s top priorities heading into the trade deadline? Denver Post sports writer Corey Masisak opens up the Avs Mailbag periodically throughout the season. Pose an Avalanche- or NHL-related question for the Avs Mailbag. At this point, what do you see as the priorities for the front office going into the trade deadline? Safe to say 2C/forward is priority No. 1?— @MileHighlyCertainOutside of 2C position, where do you see this team trying to add at or before the deadline?— Nathan, LamarThe first priority is likely to see what this team looks like once Samuel Girard and Artturi Lehkonen return to the lineup. A healthy Girard, not to mention a continuation of the positive early returns on Sam Malinski and Caleb Jones, could make the Avs feel really good about this defense corps and not just the top half of it.A healthy Lehkonen could be the key to finding some balance up front. Getting him and either Valeri Nichushkin or Mikko Rantanen together with Ryan Johansen could fix what ails the club’s second-line problems.Johansen, Lehkonen and...

Valor Christian hockey riding high as sport’s popularity grows at high school level in Colorado: “Each year it gets better”

Valor Christian hockey riding high as sport’s popularity grows at high school level in Colorado: “Each year it gets better” George Gwozdecky was asked to reflect on the growth of Valor Christian hockey. The coach responded with a bemused smile and an anecdote from the 2015-16 season, his first at the school.“I was so naïve, I didn’t know what I didn’t know,” Gwozdecky said. “I remember my wife asking me after that first week of practice, ‘Is this something you really want to do?’ Because I would explain to her some of the experiences that were happening at practice.“There were things that I had never experienced before. One player wanted to try out to be a defenseman and he couldn’t skate backwards. I had to explain to him that one of the skills that you have to have as a defenseman is the ability to skate backwards.”Gwozdecky paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts, and then continued.“From that point to where we are right now — we can all skate backwards, by the way — we have been able to become more competitive every year. I have been proud of what these guys hav...

Broncos Mailbag: Do the recent offensive struggles foretell the end of the road for Russell Wilson in Denver?

Broncos Mailbag: Do the recent offensive struggles foretell the end of the road for Russell Wilson in Denver? Denver Post Broncos writer Parker Gabriel posts his Broncos Mailbag weekly during the season and periodically during the offseason. Click here to submit a question.Hi Parker! Again, thanks again for all of your insights into the Broncos. With that, I am starting a new club: G.R.O.W. — Get Rid Of Wilson! The offense needs to revolve around the quarterback and Russell Wilson is not looking very good. Yes, he had two drives for touchdowns at the end of the game, but if he had played like that the whole game then all would be OK. He seems to not see open receivers, looks afraid to make any mistakes, and is just going through the motions. If he is let go this off season, which I do hope, will George Paton be held accountable for this huge mistake, giving up a lot for basically nothing? Again, I have never been a fan of Wilson, but I was rooting for him when we traded for him, but now it is scary to think about him behind center going into the future.— Del, LamarHey Del, certa...

Opinion: Kicking Trump off the Colorado ballot will destroy democracy in the name of saving it

Opinion: Kicking Trump off the Colorado ballot will destroy democracy in the name of saving it In ruling that former President Donald Trump should be removed from the primary ballot, the Colorado Supreme Court furthers and promotes the legal madness, while pretending to defend Democracy. In the opinion, the majority states, “We are also cognizant that we travel in uncharted territory…” One might ask if, upon finding themselves in “uncharted territory,” they just happened to pause and reflect on over a thousand of years of Western jurisprudence, and at least ponder the idea of presumed innocence until proven guilty?  Obviously, they did not. It’s important to note that this is the same court who, in 2016, could not even find it in themselves to bother taking up the Masterpiece Cakeshop case. That case went to the SCOTUS, who slapped down the Colorado Appeals Court, in a 7-2 ruling. To get a sense of how ridiculous and dangerous the Colorado Supreme Court ruling was, let’s review a few of its flaws.First, the court continues the perversion of historical ideas. Until three years ag...
