In the hours before the Twins took on the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night at Target Field, utilityman Nick Gordon stepped into the batter’s box to face relief pitcher Brock Stewart in live batting practice, an important moment for both rehabbing Twins.“He was electric,” Gordon said. “Brock had some very good velocity on his heater, I would say. His pitches looked good, man. He looked good, and Brock, he definitely looks like he’s ready to go.”In the coming days, both will join Triple-A St. Paul on a rehab assignment. Stewart said he was expecting to pitch for the Saints on Friday and Tuesday, while Gordon is set to begin a rehab assignment with the Saints a day earlier, on Thursday. It’s been a long time coming for both of them.Stewart has been on the injured list since June 27, after an issue flared up in his throwing arm. Gordon has been out even longer, fouling a pitch off his right shin, fracturing his tibia on May 17 in Los Angeles.“I was itching to go when I got hur...Water samples collected from 84 locations at Stillwater prison

Water samples were collected from 84 locations at the Stillwater prison Monday after inmates complained that the water at the prison was undrinkable. The Minnesota Department of Corrections asked the Minnesota Department of Health to conduct additional and more comprehensive water testing of the prison water after a prisoner protest last week.On Monday, water samples were collected from locations including faucets in cells, the prison’s kitchen, programming areas, the chapel and a number of staff areas, Corrections spokesperson Andy Skoogman said.“This kind of analysis of the facility’s water has not happened in the past and exceeds federal and state drinking water sampling requirements,” the release said. The water samples will be analyzed for “contaminants, including bacteria, metals and total suspended solids.”Skoogman said the results of the testing will help the department identify and implement a longer-term water management strategy. The prison wat...Americans can now get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against new virus strains

By MIKE STOBBE and LAURAN NEERGAARD (AP Medical Writers)Most Americans should get an updated COVID-19 vaccine, health officials said Tuesday.Advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention endorsed the new shots for everyone 6 months and older and the agency’s director quickly signed off Tuesday on the panel’s recommendation. That means doses should be available this week, some as early as Wednesday. The severity of the COVID-19 pandemic has faded, but there are still hundreds of hospitalizations and hundreds of deaths in the U.S. each week. Hospitalizations have been increasing since late summer, though the latest data indicate infections may be starting to level off, particularly in the South.Still, experts worry that immunity from previous vaccinations and infections is fading in many people, and a new shot would save many lives.According to a survey last month that CDC cited, about 42% said they would definitely or probably get the new vaccine. Yet only about 20% of ad...Colonie PD searching for missing man

ST. LOUIS – More than three years after the COVID-19 pandemic landed in the United States, a new vaccine has become available.“A very famous St. Louisan, Yogi Berra, said years ago, ‘It ain't over until it's over,'” said Dr. Steven Brown, Mercy Hospital. “Unfortunately, it's not over. But we've moved from the pandemic part of the cycle to endemic. It's here to stay for a long time.”Brown is a non-voting member of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which met Tuesday to discuss and recommend that Americans get new shots.Health officials say a recent surge in COVID-19 cases has them urging Americans to consider the latest vaccine clearing regulatory hurdles. Report: Ladue students died in crash following aborted police chase “The virus, unfortunately, is still deadly,” Brown said. “It still puts people in the hospital. I'm personally managing people in intensive care units as recently as last night who are positive for COVID-19 and experiencing serious consequenc...I-70 resurfacing at Colorado’s Vail Pass to begin Wednesday

At first glance, the production from the Denver running back tandem of Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine from a Week 1 loss to Las Vegas was solid, if unspectacular. The duo combined to rush 21 times for 93 yards, good for 4.4 per carry.Dig a little bit deeper, and you’ll quickly see how integral the pair of backs is to where the Broncos are trying to go and how much head coach Sean Payton is likely to rely on them in the coming weeks.Williams and Perine logged four catches apiece on 10 targets for another 42 yards, including 37 for Perine. That means 52% of the Broncos’ net offensive yardage came compliments of their two top running backs. Of 55 offensive snaps where somebody besides Russell Wilson touched the ball — he took two sacks and carried once – that somebody was Williams or Perine 29 times.“Sean told us, you never know how you’re going to get used,” Perine said. “It’s just how offenses are going nowadays. Running backs have to be able to adapt and catch the ball out of the ...Lauren Boebert escorted out of “Beetlejuice” musical in Denver after “causing a disturbance”

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert was escorted out of a Sunday night performance of the “Beetlejuice” musical in downtown Denver, accused by venue officials of vaping, singing, recording and “causing a disturbance” during the performance. In an incident report shared with The Denver Post on Tuesday afternoon, officials with Denver Arts & Venues wrote that two patrons were asked to leave the city-owned Buell Theatre during the performance of the touring Broadway show. They previously were issued a warning during the intermission regarding behavior that prompted three complaints from other theatergoers, the report says. The report does not name Boebert as one of the patrons or identify the other person. But her campaign office — while disputing the behavior alleged — confirmed that she was escorted from the Buell on Sunday night during the “Beetlejuice” show. The incident report states that after receiving the intermission warning, about five mi...The secret ingredient your salads are missing

By Melissa Clark, The New York TimesMy mother loved leftover salad. No matter what a long night in the fridge had inflicted upon the lettuce and the cress, she’d pile those saturated greens onto a toasted English muffin and swear it was a better breakfast than butter and jam.It was a predilection I could never get behind. Unless, that is, there were tomatoes involved.Chunks of ripe tomatoes are subtly improved by a short soak in a sweet, vinegary dressing. Time gives the salt a chance to work its magic, coaxing out the fruit’s nectar so it can mingle with the garlic and herbs. Left alone for a little while, a simple tomato salad will quietly transform into a deeply flavored, marinated one.Marinated tomatoes are so good they’re worth making on purpose, so you don’t have to rely on leftovers. And you don’t even need to plan that far ahead. Anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours will do the trick, though the longer they sit, the softer and juicier they become. In this recipe, I use t...Latest news
