2 juveniles charged after lit firecracker leads to school evacuation in Harvard HARVARD, Ill. — Two students face several charges for setting off a firework in their high school. According to police, the incident happened Tuesday inside a bathroom at Harvard High School in the far northwest suburbs.  Gurnee middle school teacher assaulted while breaking up fight, police say Police say an explosion from a large firecracker inside the boy's bathroom caused substantial damage and led to an evacuation of the building. A 14-year-old and 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with aggravated arson, criminal damage to state-supported property, one count of mob action and one count of reckless conduct.Read more: Latest Chicago news headlinesNo one was injured.

The afternoon forecast will continue a chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms around the normal of 83°.There will be storms tonight with the arrival of an upper-level disturbance and a cold front moving southeast over the area. Storms should start advancing through the area after 9 to 10 p.m. starting in San Saba County.The Storm Prediction Center updated its risk area for tonight to include most of the area in the slight risk (Category 2 out of 5) for severe storms. Man charged in two 2021 murders pleads guilty, gets 25-year sentence AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Tuesday, a man who entered a guilty plea for two 2021 murders Friday was sentenced to serve 25 years in state prison.According to Travis County court records, 30-year-old Laderious Nicholson was convicted by the court after the terms of his plea were negotiated.Records showed Nicholson had a jail credit of 602 days toward his sentence, roughly over a year and seven months.Nicholson was one of three accused of being involved in the death of 48-year-old Marvin “Binky” Henson in May 2021, but that was not the only murder he was accused of being involved in.Nicholson was already being held in the Travis County jail for a separate murder charge in connection with a deadly June 2021 shooting at an east Austin park.According to Travis County jail records, Nicholson remained booked into the facility as of Wednesday.

ACC to add cybersecurity training center to Rio Grande campus downtown AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Austin Community College is expanding its cybersecurity training capabilities by adding a new training center to its Rio Grande campus downtown. Congressman Lloyd Doggett helped secure nearly $1.5 million in federal funding for the project. "We all know the danger of thieves taking stuff from our personal accounts or even at the gas station, and there's a real danger of hackers who are trying to steal our democracy through misinformation," Doggett said. "So this is to provide the skilled workforce that we need here in Central Texas and beyond, to address the cybersecurity threat."Once the center is up and running, it's expected to help about 200 students a year get cybersecurity training. ACC has a specialization for cybersecurity within its Computer Science and Information Technology associate's degree program.Doggett said the addition of the center is a "cutting-edge move" by ACC to fill what he said is a growing need for cybersecurity workers. Albany man arrested following road rage incident in Colonie COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police have arrested an Albany man following a road rage incident in Colonie on Monday. Mark W. Edmonds, 36, was charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident, Menacing, and Harassment. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Police say that Edmonds reported a two-car hit-and-run crash in the area of exit 6 of I-87. Investigations determined that Edmonds was involved in a one-car crash with a guide rail while avoiding a collision.Following the crash, Edmonds confronted the vehicle he believed to be at fault. He obstructed the victim's travel lane and reportedly exited his vehicle and confronted the victim, threatening physical harm. Edmonds allegedly kicked the car, causing damages of over $1,500. Edmonds provided false information to the police during the investigation. He was arrested and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Colonie Town Court on May 10.

(NEWS10) -- On Wednesday, Ilvin Figueroa Batista, 32, of Albany, pled guilty to conspiring to distribute cocaine in the Capital Region. Sentencing is scheduled for August 14. Batista admitted that between June and December 2021, he had conspired with others to receive cocaine shipped from Puerto Rico and distribute it in the Capital Region. His role was to receive the cocaine shipped from Puerto Rico via U.S. mail and to hand it over to his co-conspirators.Three others have pled guilty in this conspiracy: Jan Lopez-Colon, 28, of Troy, Jesus Baez, 32, of Loudonville, and Sam Calderon, 20, of Troy. Batista faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $1 million, and a term of supervised release of at least 3 years and up to life. He agreed to forfeit $2,300 in cash.

Denny Hoskins that would have banned diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives in funding for public schools.After the defeat, several Republicans voiced opposition to budget increases for the coming year, arguing that it was a violation of conservative principles.
